It is common when in conversation to ask people what they are into. Old friends and new alike pick each other’s brains to see if there are some hidden gems that they may be missing out on. What shows are you watching. What books are you reading? Have you seen the latest Oscar-nominated movies? What kind of new music have you heard lately that I may be missing out on?
One addition that I throw in all of the time is: “Do you podcast?” Not like…”do you have a podcast”, but “do you listen to podcasts?”. I am so often surprised to find that people that stay up on current information and pop culture oftentimes look at me and say, “What do you mean?”
I mean this. There is an entire world of curated information for whatever you may be looking to geek out on. I personally love sports and spend a ton of time talking about them on radio three hours a day. But, my passion is health and gaining knowledge about how to optimize health. And, honestly, there aren’t public radio stations that have extensive coverage of cutting-edge health science information. These podcasts that I listen to give me tons of new concepts, hypotheses, and information straight from researchers mouths to the listeners ears. It gives me a place to launch off further research and generate new ideas in my own pursuit of health.
There is information out there just waiting to be consumed. Go get it!
First off, start by going to your podcast app or downloading it.
Here are my picks for top Health and Fitness Podcasts to get you started.
- Abel James’ Fat-Burning Man Show is probably the most digestible of the bunch He has a straightforward approach that speaks to the beginner and advanced groups in the health and wellness space.
- The Tim Ferriss Show has a bit of a nerd alert on it, as Tim gets into the weeds a touch on some of his health information. But, it is always very thorough and thought provoking. He’s the author of The Four Hour Work Week and The Four Hour Body, both of which I highly recommend for their life-hacking and body-hacking tips.
- Ben Greenfield Fitness does a more Sports Performance-type podcast, which is usually fitness to the extreme. But, there is top notch information to be gleaned from all of his episodes. He also has a great voice and does a nice job running a show.
- The Joe Rogan Experience is one of the original podcasts. Joe has three general areas he hits with his podcasts: MMA, comedy, and health science. Joe is a trippy guy with a ton of brain power. I don’t listen to his podcasts unless he’s in the health space, where I think he’s at his best. Start with the Wim Hof episode.
I urge you to start exploring this little world of information out there at your fingertips. It’s a great start down an endless wormhole. There’s undoubtedly something for everyone. Have fun!
